An hour later, Tom sipped a double espresso as he logged on to the computer at the back of the café. Logging into the Gmail account, he typed a simple message into the draft folder.

‘Money received. Ready when you are for testing.’

He sat back and took another sip of the strong coffee, staring out of the large window onto the bustling Lewisham street outside and thinking about the mission. Jaco would be, to all intents and purposes, on his own in a very dangerous situation and Tom wished, if he was honest, that it was him that was going in instead. He couldn’t help but be pragmatic, however. It just made sense to use another operative in that situation. Tom felt strangely impotent, and it wasn’t a comfortable feeling.

Looking down he refreshed the folder and saw the new message.

‘Same place as last meeting, 6am tomorrow.’
